Decorative and scratch-resistant UV paint coatings with reduced coat thickness (Part 4)
Research on various paint classes led to recipes that can be used in the following areas or for the following product components: the automotive supplier industry, household appliances, mobile telephone covers and displays, vehicle axles, saw blades, vehicle interiors, cosmetic components and container lids for the food-packaging industry.
Within the framework of a joint project, this subproject tested clear varnish and pigmented formulae on a laboratory scale, i.e. in batch sizes ranging from 200 g to 5 kg for use in various fields of application. The raw materials were selected on the basis of previous experience and targeted discussions with raw material suppliers. Results:
The large range of findings have resulted in recipes that are potentially suitable for use in the following areas:
- Black, solvent-free single-coat paints with a high degree of corrosion protection for the automotive supplier industry.
- Aqueous single-coat paints for plastic components used in the household appliance industry (vacuum cleaners).
- Weather-resistant two-coat systems consisting of a hydro-basecoat and a solvent-free UV clear varnish for coating plastic surfaces such as mobile telephone covers.
- Scratch-resistant, solvent-free UV clear varnishes for transparent plastic surfaces such as mobile telephone displays, which also have an "easy-to-clean" effect.
- Solvent-free single-coat paints for coating complex components, some of which have already been precoated, such as vehicle axles (UV inert gas hardening).
- Aqueous, decorative UV single-coat paints for metallic bases such as saw blades.
- A two-coat system consisting of a UV base coat and a UV clear varnish for coating the metallised surfaces of vehicle interiors and cosmetic components.
- UV clear varnish for the packaging industry, i.e. for varnishing container lids in indirect contact with food products.
