Political strategies for energy transition
The project examines which political measures are suitable for energy system transformation. Based on the effects of individual political measures and policy paths, the overview of the overall system is provided. Together with actors from politics, energy industry and society, useful strategies for energy system transformation and its acceptance by citizens are compiled.
Summary
Political efforts in Germany have not yet been sufficient to achieve the Paris Climate Change Agreement. The project developes ideas and possibilities to achieve the ambitous climate protection goals. Right from the start, political decision-makers, business representatives and citizens will be involved in a large-scale dialogue process. At the heart of the project is a Green Paper White Paper process, which aims to support decision-makers with options for achieving the climate protection goals with socially accepted policy instruments. In the Green Paper the status quo is considered and evaluated, including solution approaches from other countries. Beyond that, additional measures will be developed and their effects or legal obstacles will be assessed.
In the White Paper, the options elaborated in the Green Paper are discussed in dialogue forums and civil dialogues. One example is to what level society is willing to pay a CO2 tax. The results of these dialogues are published in a multimedia online White Paper.
The state of the energy system transformation and social trends are continuously included in the project and incorporated into the ongoing studies and dialogues. In addition, the project plays a bundling role for three other projects, in which technical solutions for the energy network of the future, Power-to-X processes and a supply-oriented energy demand are considered.
