Evaluation of the technical-economic feasibility of the secondary utilization of deep drilling as an energy source within the depths- geothermal energy-probe process

Numerous and no longer utilized deep-drilled wells from oil and natural gas explorations are available across the entire Federal Republic of Germany. These old wells represent a significant potential for geothermal utilization according to the technology of the depths-geothermal energy probe. The thermal potential of such a probe depends on the depth and ranges between 50 to 500 kW. It is thus possible to realize plants with a heating capacity of 100 to 1000 kW. Compared with the traditional heat pump systems (with air, soil, or ground water as source) the deep earth probe method offers the advantage of a higher source temperature, which increases the efficiency of the heat pump (detail information in German).
