Computer-supported sounding for determining weapon and warfare objects in Latvia

Summary

The training of the Latvian staff members in Germany with regard to the procedure of computer-supported clearing of the land from ammunition and warfare objects is a good basis for the work in Cecule.  Within the framework of the project, 9 staff members of the company VentEko have been trained in the methods and the theoretical as well as practical contents of costeffective computer-supported elimination of ammunition and warfare objects. Extensive instructions were followed by practical work on the site and computer-technical evaluation in the office.  Knowledge about various sounding variants that can be used in the removal of ammunition, including the advantage of computer-supported area sounding, was conveyed. Evaluation and visualisation of the surveyed fields in the office require a longer settling-in period as well as respective professional experience.   All activities were focussed on the transfer of knowledge and not on the search for ammunition and warfare objects on larger areas.  It became clear that an appropriate technology for removing ammunition and warfare objects is to be chosen in accordance with the conditions of the grounds and in dependence on the contamination degree. In this respect, the later use of the terrain should also be considered. After their evaluation, the areas sounded within the framework of training and the test fields laid out made the assessment of the ammunition and warfare object load on the real estate in Cecule possible.  
The project has created substantial preconditions for introducing the innovative technology in the removal of ammunition and warfare objects in Latvia by its wide public announcement.
