Summary
In connection with climate change, above all the areas agriculture, forestry, the health sector, water supply and treatment are mentionend in the survey of citizens and municipalities. In the commercial sector, risks are seen in the areas of logistics, investment and financing, but in part also advantages in the marketing of certain products and services in connection with climate change. The issue of urban green spaces has not yet been identified as a priority topic. The project raises awareness of urban green and adaptations of urban green as a field of discussion and action.
Urban green space is in its surrounding densely populated area exposed to the most diverse everyday demands, which result from the use of the areas themselves, but also from the necessity to fulfil all other needs of the citizens. The basic demand on existing green spaces is therefore high. In addition, their maintenance and development is limited by a narrow financial framework and sometimes conflictual administrative structures.
Together with the city of Friedrichshafen and the "Bündnis der Kommunen für biologische Vielfalt" (Alliance of Municipalities for Biological Diversity) as project partners, an exemplary investigation is being carried out into the new challenges facing urban green spaces under changing climate conditions.
Results:
Due to current societal demands, especially in relation to urban growth, and the complex integration of urban green space into urban development processes, existing climate adaptation efforts face multiple resistances in planning phase. To give these efforts more space, it would be particularly important to involve citizens and politics more. There is already a great deal of information and many initiatives on urban greening as a means of climate adaptation. It would make sense to network these better and make knowledge better accessible.
