Development and testing of a process and associated water disinfection installation for drinking water treatment, based upon mercury-free and electrodeless UV lamps

Investigations conducted confirm that an alternative energising method which uses microwave radiation for the generation of short-wave UV radiation is both feasible and practicable. Noble gas mixtures with halogen components provide a suitable replacement for conventional mercury-based filler gases, while the resulting UV radiation achieves comparable results, in terms of disinfection performance.
